New Student Orientation August 23, 2023
Orientation is for ALL New Students: This is a reminder that our orientation is for all new students, whether they're joining us for the first time or transferring from another school. Students will enter the building and report to their first-period teacher’s classroom. Signs and staff will help direct students to the correct locations. Parents and guardians will meet in the cafeteria while students are with their teachers. This orientation will serve as a time for students to see the school, practice with their lockers, and learn more about LKMS. For parents and guardians, this will be a time for you to hear about different procedures at LKMS and have a brief Q&A with the Administration, counselors, and our PTA.
Lockers
Students will be able to use their lockers before and after lunch. Students are permitted to carry their backpacks throughout the day except during lunch and recess. Students will not be permitted to set up their lockers prior to the beginning of the school year; there will be allotted time during the first week of school for students to organize their materials in their lockers.
Student Schedules
On Wednesday, 8/23, at 8:00 am schedules will be posted for our incoming students on HCPSS Connect. Please note that while these posted schedules are as accurate as possible, minor changes may still occur. Students will receive a hard copy of their schedule within their first-period classes upon their return to school on Monday, 8/28.
New School Meals & Payment Info for Families
HCPSS no longer will use Nutrislice for school menus or MySchoolBucks for meal payments. LINQ Connect is a secure, online portal that allows families to view breakfast and lunch menus, make online meal payments, monitor their child’s account, schedule automatic recurring payments, set up low balance alerts, submit a Free and Reduced Meals program application, and more. Details and information are available online.
Time to Complete Family File and Free and Reduced Meal Applications!
Want to be able to participate in field trips and special events? You must complete this year’s Family File so we know who to contact in an emergency. Please include multiple phone numbers and alternate family/friends in case we cannot reach a parent/guardian. After logging in to HCPSS Connect at https://www.hcpss.org/connect/ complete the Family File at: https://family.hcpss.org/familyfile/#/app/default.
FARMS Application Information
To apply for all the financial assistance benefits of Free and Reduced Meals, including free Evening and Summer School, free SAT/ACT test fees, free college application fees, etc., complete the quick FARMS application at:

Medication
If your student needs to take medication while in school, please bring in and drop off medication and supplies to the health room on August 24 from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and August 25 from 8:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please bring in the completed and signed doctor's order with the correct medication.
This has to be given to the nurse or the health assistant. Medication and order forms cannot be given to other staff.
Family File
PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR STUDENT(S) FAMILY FILE before August 28.
Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect PARENT ACCOUNT and selecting the MORE OPTIONS tab on the left and then clicking on Family File.
